The South African Municipal Workers Union has learned with shock and utter dismay about the alleged sexual harassment and ill-treatment conduct of Sekhukhune District Municipality ‘s Director of Co-operates services Mr Phakane Phahalmohlaka. The alleged sex pest has for a very long time treated the municipality as his personal fiefdom wantonly ill-treating workers as well as dismissing them for flimsy and ridiculous reasons devoid of substance and facts.
As a progressive union, we want to put it on record that we condemn the behaviour of the Sekhukhune District Municipality management particularly the former Municipal Manager Mrs Mokoko for having allowed and subsequently protecting this behaviour happening in her institution by not taking pro-active steps including but not limited to ensuring that sexual harassment policy of the institution becomes an effective tool to mitigate against such behaviour.

We will also like to applaud the woman of substance Mrs Rebecca Maunatlala for daring to be a David against a Goliath and speak out against this malpractice through a court process that she initiated against the alleged sex pest.

The sexual predator will be appearing in court on the 26th May 2017 in Groblersdal magistrate court after he skipped court on the 26th April 2017.

We are calling for the mobilisation of all workers particularly (women) in the district and Limpopo in general to support this woman of substance on the 26th May 2017 in Groblersdal magistrate court. We also call on the management of Sekhukhune District Municipality together with the political leadership particularly the mayor to act decisively and suspend the alleged sexual predator so that he will not be able to continue with his antics and try to intimidate potential witnesses.

We are also calling for investigation of his alleged protector, director in the office of executive mayor who chose to side with the friend instead of protecting the integrity of the institution in the process compromising the sanctity of the office of the executive mayor for abuse of power .
