Under the new agreement, workers will receive an additional non-pensionable R2000 salary increase until June 2017. From July 2017, when workers are due for their salary increase, workers at the municipality will receive a non-pensionable R3000 which shall be adjusted annually inline with the cost of living as approved by the SALGBC. In addition to this, we have also secured a R40 000 payback for all employees at the municipality.
We firmly believe that this agreement will assist in bridging the wage gap for workers in the municipality as they had been underpaid since the decision to change the City from a Local Municipality to a Metropolitan Municipality.
This agreement is testament to our commitment to servicing our members and always ensuring that we champion their interests at all times. This has also indicated that being a SAMWU member has huge benefits.
