The South African Municipal Workers Union in the Greater Vaal region, Gauteng province, will be marching on the Emfuleni Municipality today at 1:00pm, to deliver a memorandum of demands to the Executive of the Municipality. Local Government Wage Curve Saga Update 03 June 2013 The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) indicated that the facilitators proposal on the wage curve saga failed to receive favorable approval from Municipalities. From the Unions side, the facilitators proposal still stands for SALGA to reconsider its position. In the mean time, the Union is pursuing the Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Richard Baloyi, to intervene. Workers in Westonaria to march once again
SAMWU PRESS STATEMENT 22 February 2011
The South African Municipal Workers Union in Westonaria will once again march to the Westonaria Local Municipality Council Chambers, to deliver a memorandum of demands to the Executive Mayor of Westonaria, Cllr Maserame Khumalo.
Amongst the workers demands, are calls for an effective administration, to address workers well being. The community and the workers are concerned about the Municipality and service delivery in the area and are therefore calling on the management to address their concerns immediately.

Municipal Workers from the Stellenbosch Municipality in the Western Cape, will today down tools to raise serious concerns with the municipal management. Workers are disturbed by the prevalence of corruption, nepotism and non-consultation in this Municipality. Local Government salary and wage increase 1 July 2013 to June 2014 In applying the multi-year Salary and Wage Collective Agreement, dated 27 July 2012,the following increase for the Local Government Sector will be implemented; 1. The salary increase shall be 6.84% with effect from 1 July 2013 2. The minimum wage shall increase by 6.84%. The new minimum wage for the sector will be R5264.01 with effect from 1 July 2013 4. The maximum employer contribution to an employees accredited medical scheme shall be increased to R3557.65 from 1 July 2013. |
