SAMWU appreciates ANC commitment to investigate reported problems in the Free State

SAMWU PRESS STATEMENT
23 June 2010.

SAMWU, the largest local government Trade Union, would like to express its appreciation for the commitment displayed by the ANC in the Free State Province, for giving audience to the problems and challenges which SAMWU has raised confronting many municipalities in the Free State Province, in particular Mangaung and Metsimaholo Municipalities.

We are pleased to state that from the joint meetings held by the organizations, its outcome resulted into an Alliance led process, from which a Task Team has been set up to investigate all reported problems and challenges confronting municipalities; with the specific focus on municipalities SAMWU had expressed concern about. The Task Team will report back within reasonable time, to the broader Alliance meeting in the Province.

The national leadership of SAMWU further wishes to express its undivided support and confidence in its provincial leadership in the Free State, elected during the last Provincial Congress; together we will continue to do whatever is necessary and possible to defend members against any form of unfair treatment in the workplace and we will continue to find solutions to whatever challenges that are confronting workers.

For further comment, contact SAMWU’s General Secretary Mthandeki Nhlapo on 072 536 9756/021 697 1152.
